Which airline offers the cheapest deal for Houston to NY round trip during winter break?

I want to visit NY from Houston during winter break (December 17 to January 14). Which airline should I use. I just want it cheap.

GonsalvezM 		AirTran often offers competitive deals on this route. The best way to find the cheapest flight deals is to compare all major travel sites. And try to be flexible on travel dates, times, airlines and airports. Don't forget to book well in advance. Start shopping around. If you see a good deal, grab it. Cause the prices are going up, due to the holiday season and tickets get booked rapidly during that time of year.

GonsalvezM 		compare several sites and then buy, but do it soon as prices will be going up the closer you get to your departure date - you really don't have the luxury of shopping around at this point......

ARobert 		The easiest way to find the best deal is to use an website that scours all the airlines for the best deal. Instead of just checking out one at a time. It varies but there are a few airlines that are always up there with the cheapest. Here's a good place to start.

JasonS 		Southwest is showing fares as low as $168 from Hobby to LaGuardia on Dec 17, and all the flights back on Jan 14 are currently listed at $114. Adding in all the taxes and fees brings it up to $323 round trip - and remember that Southwest does not charge you for two checked bags.

Putting the same dates into Travelocity, the lowest fare that pops up is Hobby to LaGuardia on AirTran, for $276 including taxes and fees. AirTran charges for checked bags, however; it appears it would be $15 for the first bag and $25 for a second one. That would add $30/$50 to the round-trip fare. So AirTran is about the same price if you're taking two bags and is a better deal if you're only taking one.

GonsalvezM 		Airlines generally price-match each other (on the same "product", and a non-stop flight is considered a different product than a flight to the same place but with a connection), and so do websites, so that's not the issue. Things that are likely to make more of a difference are:
* how far in advance the ticket is purchased (and how close to sold-out that particular flight is)
* non-stop versus connecting somewhere
* day of the week you travel on

I would say do this:
1) Go to any aggregator site (orbitz, kayak, etc.) and see how much they charge.
2) Go to www.southwest.com and see how much they charge. Their flights are never listed on the aggregators.
3) Buy whichever of the above is cheaper. Do it soon, because the price is much more likely to go up than down.
