Where is the best place to live in Houston?

I'm 22 and moving to Houston for a job. I'm going to be working downtown, but am looking for good (maybe even college-ish) bar and restaurant scene. Looking to spend about 1000 a month on rent. Thoughts?

Why don't you live in a condo or something downtown? They have some nice ones all around that are in your price range. It would make your commute easy (MetroRail, or bus, or whatever) and you would be in easy access to alot of stuff.

Houston is a great place to live! I hope you like it here as much as most everyone else!

Downtown is okay but try looking in Midtown. It's not far from Downtown but has lots of young professionals and some nice sidewalk cafes & fun bars.
Try looking at http://www.har.com and put in 77002 as a Zip code.

Medical center area ( a lot of medical students so there are a lot of bars, restaurants & pubs in that area, I hate beer), Anyway Med center area (except around South Loop) then it starts to get ghetto. So the NORTH side of the medical center & some of midtown would be my choices.

You should be able to find a nice or hopefully decent condo in that price range in midtown or the part of Houston that is close to the Texas Medical Center. Check out Har.com Good luck

Try the Med Center or just north of there around Rice University.

Everyone drives in houston so moving around a college type town prob wouldnt do much justice... I would say Sugar Land area 1st (which is the nicest area to me); next would be somewhere off of 288 or 610 (quick access to downtown and galleria area)... or just simply move in the galleria area.

Hey, welcome to houston. It is always a good place. I live out in Northwest side of the town called willowbrook. It is good surburb area but if you are looking for collegish type area, Medical center area would be better choice. I guess you do have light train facility for commute. Do you check out har.com and even post question at http://justaskhouston.com for more specific answer.
