What mechanic shop would you suggest in Houston for replacing an engine?

How much do you think the labor would be for something like this? ? SVT Engine 4cyl, 1998 Ford Contour. How much does a engine normally cost for something like this?

What do you mean by replace? Do you mean rebuild your current engine, or take a whole different engine and put it in the car?

Unless you have another engine, it won't really be worth it. Unless it's the same engine in the car now you'll likely need a tranny swap also.

So unless you've got the parts needed you're looking at thousands.

Better off to get another car.

in my area in tenesssee labor at my shop would be around $864 ,you want a new or used engine, i would guess used one would run about $800 to $1400, a new one around $2000 to $2800 your area may be higher or lower ,i would check out a place called fredjonesengines.com they are good engine builders they build about 90% of all dealerships engines and trannies. warranty is 3yrs unlimited mileage. email me for more info i can get it for you but always shop around for the best prices.dougrosedougrose@yahoo.com

I always go to http://www.lowmileageengines.com/ when I buy an engine. I believe in their service so much that I have an engine through them for my wife's car and my Ford Ranger. My truck engine cost me about $1000 delivered. It had less than 5000 miles on it. I like engines 10000 miles or less and I don't trust rebuilders locally in my area because they cut too many corners. I know, because I worked for a few here in San Antonio, TX. I also charged around $800 to $1000 labor on most vehicles to swap engines. If you go the used engine route, be sure to replace oil, oil filter, water pump, hoses, timing belt, thermostat, all gaskets and seals and anything else that may have caused your old engine to fail. It's an appreciable amount of money, but if this is done properly, it will be much less money spent than a new car.
