Is the area in Houston between Tx Southern Univ and the South Freeway safe?

Native Houstonians: I'm looking at renting an apartment there. I know what neighborhoods are good in Houston like Bellaire so I don't need those type suggestions, but not specifically if that area is ok.

ARobert 		Depends how close you are to the south freeway(aka 288). Parts of this area are built up because it is relatively close to both TSU and UofH. Honestly though there are some rough patches in this area(3rd Ward and Sunnyside). I might need more info as far as why you want this specific are(are you going to be going to school at one of these universities?) to help advise you as to an area to move to. If you would
