Connection time:entering the US through Houston airport is 1h20 mins enough?

Hi, I am planning a trip from Canada to Colombia and I found a great deal on a ticket connecting through Houston with Continental Airlines. The only tricky part is that it only gives 1hr and 20 mins to make the connection. Since I will be doing customs, checking my bags etc. will that be enough time to make it? Should I risk it?

JasonS 		Yes, that is fine. As long as you go through U.S. pre-clearance in Canada before you arrive in the USA, then you should be fine. I have made connections shorter than 1 hour perfectly. Houston has a great modern airport.

ARobert 		It should be no problem at all if you go through US Immigrations/Customs while still in Canada. If yes, you probably don't even have to collect your luggage in Houston to take to Interline baggage - just get off the aircraft and go to the gate for your next flight.

If you > don't < go through US Immigration/Customs while still in Canada the connection is tight but doable if your Canada-Houston flight arrives on time or early.

Ask for a seat as far forward as possible so you exit the aircraft ahead of the crowd. Don't dawdle walking to Immigration.

Collect your luggage (there are carts), walk through the Customs checkpoint (they usually just take your form and wave you through), and go to Interline Baggage (just past Customs). Check the time before you simply give your luggage to them. if there is less than 45 minutes before your next flight then talk to an airline representative. They may need to re-book you on another flight and re-tag your bags.

Do tag your luggage inside and out with your name (as it appears on your ticket), a phone number someone reliable will answer, and your e-mail address. The free tags from the check-in counter are fine.
