Are there any nice lakes within a couple hours of Houston?

I've been to Lake Houston, and Somerville, but there both nasty with green/brown water. Lake Travis is so low, that they've closed the last remaining boat ramp. Are there any nice lakes, that actually have blue water that you can see down more than 2 inches?

I used to go to Canyon Lake when my parents used to have a house there. It used to be beautiful but I am sure about now since I haven't been up there in 7 years. It's just outside of New Braunfels. I am not sure if that is too far for you or not. You can check it out more here.

I would also recommend Canyon Lake. It also has hiking & biking traiils. Also a 24 hour fishing dock. I am sure the water is bluer than lake Houston LOL.

Lake Conroe is less than an hour north of downtown Houston. Follow the signs off I-45 for FM105 West.

Sorry but "nice" & "lake" never go together as far as I'm concerned. They are always murky & slimy on the bottom. maybe "nice" from afar.
